Williamson, Nancy Yost Dr. Myers (J) called the meeting to order at 3:20 p.m. The agenda was APPROVED as submitted. On a Chambers/Brown motion, the January 25, 2005 minutes were APPROVED as submitted. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Dr. James Myers announced that the Master of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics was approved by the Senate. He also announced Soncerae Yeagers replacement, which is Casandra Reyes. Also, James Lenze is the parliamentarian for the Senate. Dr. Chambers announced that the ad hoc committee met on Friday, February 4, 2005 about the Bologna Agreement and have asked for more information from the graduate school for their next meeting on this Friday, February 11, 2005. He received a letter from James Wolfe regarding a new Master of Science Information Assurance Program that is under development now and that they would like to offer in fall 2006. Dr. David Myers distributed the following: BIOL 477/577 Neurobiology response, assigned to subcommittee #1 (Bharadwaj, Lenze, Yost) Professional Studies in Education Variable in Delivery for doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction and two ALS prefixes to change to CURR, assigned to subcommittee #3 (Brown, Williamson, Reyes, Peterson) Dr. Soni announced that at the council of graduate coordinators he was charged with several things: The new graduate teaching eligibility process has been implemented. Graduate eligibility data will be maintained on Banner for accuracy and will allow extraction of information with ease. Soon, the list of Graduate faculty will be made available on the SGSR webpage. SPSS licenses (100) have been bought for student use. The SGSR is deploying an imaging solution to make student applications available for departmental reviews in a secure electronic environment. All graduate programs will be gradually moved over to this new process. On an experimental basis, the SGSR has contracted with gradschools.com to help us advertise and market all of our graduate offerings. Please contact Paula Sandusky for any additional information. The Council of Graduate Coordinators has charged Dr. Soni to move forward their request to explore changing the current grading system to the plus-minus system (A+,A,A-,B+.). This issue has been raised several times in the past. Dr. Staszkiewicz, at the request of Dr. Soni, has already requested Mr. Bob Simon, the registrar, to provide results of all previous deliberations. Dr. Soni thinks that this is something that will ultimately come to the UWGC. The Council of Graduate Coordinators passed a request to initiate a by-laws change to require all UWGC members to have graduate faculty status (graduate teaching eligibility). Senator Chambers has agreed to take this issue to APSCUF and Senator Soni has already placed this item on the Rules Committees agenda.
