Call to Order: 3:25 PM Present: Craig, Hannibal, Kabala, Kostelnik, Martin, McCombie, Numan, Pankaj, Peterson, Sadler, Scandrett, Sechrist, Staszkiewicz, Wheeler Excused: Barnacle II. On a Hannibal/Wheeler motion, the November 29, 2005 minutes were approved as submitted III. Co-Chairs Report Sechrist updated the UWUCC on the reactions the syllabus amnesty program received at APSCUF Representative Council. Most issues revolved around NCATE outcomes assessment issues. These are not part of the university-wide syllabus of record as advanced by the UWUCC because it is not a requirement for every program. Since the original April Senate meeting was scheduled for a day on which there are no classes, the Spring Senate schedule has been changed. Sechrist shared the new curriculum submission deadlines associated with each Senate meeting. Sechrist reported that the UWUCC would need to elect a new recording secretary soon as Staszkiewicz will be coming off the UWUCC and Dr. Samuels will be joining the group. Sechrist reported on her discussion with the Honors Committee with regard to the Chemistry Honors proposal. The Honors Committee had not seen the proposal and will review it. The issue revolved around the number of credits required in their proposal. The Biology and History programs have fewer that 12 credits in honors because they were approved before the 12 credit policy for honors programs. Sechrist updated the UWUCC on the status of the COMM 410 proposal. Sechrist reported that since Flickinger has not attended any meetings since he came the first time, he should be removed from the roster. Sechrist will notify SGA. IV. Honors College Committee Report: No report Liberal Studies Committee report was accepted as submitted. For action: Approved GEOS 225 Forensic Geology for Liberal Studies Elective and Non-lab Science categories (pending UWUCC new course approval) 05-2 MGMT 325 Small Business Management, prerequisite change The committee is uncertain why the department has not responded to questions from the Screening Committee. The proposal has been on the docket for almost two years. While the proposal is only to include a prerequisite change, there is no syllabus of record to compare the proposal against. If the syllabus does not exist, the department may want to take advantage of the amnesty program. Sechrist will alert the department to that option and have them confirm that the only change has to do with the prerequisite. 05-30 MATH 100 Intermediate Algebra, distance education The following issues were identified: Since the proposal requires regular US Mail for some documents, should provisions be included for lost mail? One suggestion was delivery confirmation. There were no student-based objectives only a list of topics. The proposer might wish to include student/faculty interaction in the syllabus. EACH objective needs a narrative describing how DE can be used to fulfill that objective. The course description does not match the catalog. Use MATH not MA How do the notes and previews get graded and what is expected of them? If students do not have questions will they not receive points? The proposal will be reconsidered once the proposer responds to these concerns. 05-32 MKTG 420 Marketing Management, distance education The following issues were raised: There is no syllabus of record included. EACH objective needs a narrative describing how DE can be used to fulfill that objective. The catalog description is missing the prerequisite that is listed in the catalog. Who are the exam proctors and what is the University Exam Proctor policy referred to in the proposal? If the student does not have a high speed computer and sound capabilities would they be at a disadvantage? There was a concern whether these were the approved course objectives, which ties back to the lack of a syllabus of record. Can you meet the objectives of this course with out a marketing project, again this is hard to evaluate without a syllabus of record. Is discussion graded? Many instructors have found that if it isnt graded students will not participate. 05-33a ART 216 Jewelry and Metals, course title, prerequisite and catalog description change (was Basic Metals) The proposed prerequisite change has no rationale. Sechrist will obtain that. The proposal received provisional approval on a Kostelnik/Staszkiewicz motion. Kabala abstained. 05-33b ART 400 Professional Practices, course title, prerequisite and catalog description change (was Senior Thesis and Professional Practicum) The proposal was approved on a Craig/Martin motion. Kabala abstained 05-33c ART 460 Advanced Jewelry and Metals, course title, prerequisite and catalog description change (was Advanced Metals) The proposed prerequisite change has no rationale. Sechrist will obtain that. The proposal received provisional approval on a Wheeler/Pankaj motion. Kabala abstained.
