We were happy to see so many alumni of the Anthropology BA and Applied Archaeology MA programs at the recent Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology. Former students who attended the conference are now working for the US Army Corps of Engineers, cultural resource management firms, departments of transportation, departments of natural resources, and the Student Conservation Association. It was also nice to learn that other students recently completed graduate programs.
Professors Bill Chadwick and Ben Ford presented a poster on the recent archaeological field schools at the Newport village site. Work at the site is ongoing, but it is striking how heavily the residents invested in the town despite its short period of existence. Ford also participated in a symposium on historical archaeology on ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø public lands. This symposium was an outgrowth of IUP Anthropology’s long-term efforts to investigate and interpret the vestiges of our heritage contained on state lands.
