This is part of #EberlyDoesSports, a series from the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology that focuses on business majors who play team sports, club sports, or are involved in sports at a community or individual level.
MBA student Daniel Bostedo is a member of both the IUP Men's Ice Hockey Team and the National Society of Leadership and Success. He is from Wexford, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, which is about 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh.
Daniel found out about IUP when he was young because his father graduated from IUP's business school. He chose to come to IUP and the Eberly College of Business for multiple reasons. He liked the many options of business majors in Eberly, it was a smaller school closer to home, and had an ice hockey team and some of his friends were joining the team.
Daniel started at IUP as an undecided business major and later changed his major to supply chain management. He decided to stay for graduate school because it was a good opportunity to further his education and use his last year of eligibility for hockey.
"While studying at the Eberly College of Business, I have had the opportunity to experience several things that provided valuable insights for my future. Not only have I learned from the faculty, but I have learned from several guest speakers in the supply chain field. They shared their experience and lessons learned along the way. I also had the opportunity to visit distribution centers and learn more about their operations. This was a great experience for my supply chain background," explained Bostedo.
Dan explained to us about his hockey career. "I joined the Ice Hockey club as a freshman defenseman, and this is my fifth year on the team. I joined because I have been playing hockey since I was five and wanted to continue playing competitively. I also joined the board of the club and was the vice president for a year. I also joined the National Society of Leadership and Success my junior year. I joined this club because it was a good way to network and grow more as an individual as well as learn some valuable skills," said Daniel.
Dan has big plans and it is looking forward to the future. "My plans for the future are to get a job in the supply chain industry. Participating in a sport and student organization have helped me be better prepared for the workforce. Hockey has taught me to work as a member of the team, overcome adversity, and balance my time. My year as a board member for the hockey club provided me the opportunity to create budgets and work with officers to help the entire team. Through the National Society of Leadership and Success I gained valuable leadership and communication skills."
Some of Daniel's core values include treating people with respect, honesty. and commitment. A quote that he can relate to is, "You cannot control everything that happens to you; you can only control the way you respond to what happen. In your response is your power."
