West Virginia University's Department of Chemistry will be visiting IUP on Wednesday, November 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to showcase their graduate  and Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs.

Students can attend either by coming to Weyandt 127 or on their computers, using the . Many IUP graduates have gone onto West Virginia University for their graduate degrees.

All chemistry or biochemistry majors are encouraged to attend, as we have an affiliation agreement with ODU. If you have questions about or are interested in the affiliation agreement, please see Justin Fair before November 22, 2021.

The C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry is the only chemistry PhD granting program in the state of West Virginia. With over 85 graduate students, 17 research-active faculty, and 10 teaching faculty, the department offers rigorous, R1 highest-activity research while still maintaining the personal feel of a much smaller program. The department has particular research strengths in catalysis, bioanalytical chemistry, and biophysical chemistry. A brief overview of the department and undergraduate/graduate research opportunities will be presented including a highlight of Popp group research on organometallic carboxylation chemistries.
