Description: On September 7, 2017, Equifax announced it had suffered a cybersecurity incident potentially impacting 143+ million US consumers. In the immediate aftermath of the breach announcement, the CEO, CIO, and CSO retired and a SVP was fired; consumers were worried and confused; tech journalists were critical; and politicians indignant. Now, 18 months later, there is a great deal more information related to Equifax activities before and after the breach available via a GAO report released in September 2018 and congressional report released in December 2018. These details allow for a detailed examination and analysis of Equifax’s cybersecurity policy, processes, personnel management, tools, etc., which makes it extremely useful as a case study.
