Description:Cybersecurity automation is a decades-old concept describing a network defense ecosystem that enables automated response actions through seamless integration of C2 and data flows. Until recently, the technology simply didn't exist to make this vision real, but the emergence of Security Orchestration Automation and Response (SOAR) technologies has fundamentally changed the speed and consistency of enterprise cybersecurity defense, response, and recovery. SOAR technologies, if properly implemented and supported, allow organizations to offload the repetitive tasks to automated workflows and processes, and permit the scarce human capital to concentrate on tasks that require human intervention and analysis. The use of cybersecurity automation concepts and SOAR technologies can also enable responses that span the information technology and operational technology portions of an enterprise, allowing for greater security and agile response in challenged environments. To prepare the future cybersecurity workforce to fully apply Cybersecurity Automation in their future workplaces, it is important that cybersecurity curriculum incorporates modules that help the students appreciate the benefits of cybersecurity automation as well as the steps needed to successfully implement SOAR technologies in their enterprise.
