Collaborating one final time, the IUP Dance Theater Company and the IUP Percussion Ensemble will present “An Evening of Dance and Percussion: Legacy.” Under the direction of Holly Boda-Sutton and Michael Kingan, these two ensembles come together for one final performance celebrating almost 20 years of exciting collaboration. The performance will take place on March 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium, located in the Performing Arts Center.
The two groups bring together the ultimate homage to a percussion and dance history at IUP dating back almost 20 years, and to the legacy this alliance will leave behind for years to come. This concert brings back nine favorites from percussion and dance repertoire dating back to 2009. The pieces selected from the past have been reconstructed by alumni of IUP Dance Theater and feature musical arrangements by IUP percussion alumni. Performances feature past and present company members and select community dancers.
The IUP Dance Theater Company and IUP Percussion Ensemble have worked together on a number of previous projects, including a classic-rock retelling of Cinderella, the sci-fi story of Logan's Run featuring the music of Genesis, and the alumni-focused HomeGrown.
Key collaborating artists include lighting design by David Surtasky, scenic design by Brian Jones, and costume design by Nancy Pipkin-Hutchinson.
To ensure a safe and healthy environment, in-person attendees must be IUP students, faculty, or staff and will be required to wear masks at all times and sit in designated seats. For all other viewers, the performance will be live-streamed online only on the date and time of the performance. Streaming tickets are priced at $12. In-person tickets for I-Card holders are priced at $8 and are available in limited numbers due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions. Ticket codes for the performance are available for purchase online through the Lively Arts website. If you prefer, you may call the ticket hotline at 724-357-2787, M-F noon-4:30 p.m. for assistance. No walk-up ticket sales will be available due to limited staffing and safety precautions.
