The IUP Community Music School summer semester is just starting Week 3 and is off to a terrific start, with over 60 students taking private lessons. This is nearing pre-pandemic enrollment levels for the summer semester, with nearly all lessons occurring in person.
With rolling enrollment and only a five-lesson minimum for the 10-week summer semester, there is still plenty of time for anyone, young or old, to take a few lessons with one of the highly qualified and recommended instructors.
If you're a school-age student, it's a great time to continue to progress and amaze your music teacher in the fall at how much better you've gotten over the summer; and, if you're an adult but haven't played in a little while, it's also a great time to pull that instrument out of the closet, dust it off, and take a few lessons.
New this summer is the community band playing a summer concert in the Oak Grove, just outside of Fisher Auditorium. Renamed "University Band" for the spring semester and becoming more inclusive to both IUP students and community members, the band's numbers have grown dramatically, affording the opportunity to present more than just a concert at the end of the fall and spring semesters.
The concert takes place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, with two rehearsals on the preceding Thursdays, July 7 and 14, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Cogswell 121. The best part is that participation in the band will be free. Simply email the conductor, Jason Worzbyt, at reedtip@iup.edu for information and music.
