Hossein Shahmohamad of the Rochester Institute of Technology presented “Graphs and Their Potent Energy Drinks” in the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences Colloquium Series on February 17, 2023.
Graph energy is a topic of great interest in mathematical chemistry as well as mathematics. In his presentation, Shahmohamad compiled and summarized many of the recent discoveries and progress made on this topic. The study of graph energy is deeply related to modeling the spread of epidemics, properties of proteins, the search for the genetic causes of Alzheimer's disease, and entropy.
Shahmohamad earned his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh and is professor of mathematics at Rochester Institute of Technology. Pictured in the photo are some attendees (left to right): John J. Kopchick (Ohio University, a molecular biologist well known to IUP), John Lattanzio (IUP), Shahmohamad, and Robert Stamicar (a financial expert in risk analysis).
