Selected through a competitive application process, the IUP Symphony Orchestra, conducted by IUP Director of Orchestral Studies Alexandra Dee, will perform at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Music Educators Association Annual In-Service Conference on Thursday, April 7, 2022.

The Symphony Orchestra will travel to the Kalahari Resort in the Poconos to perform for music educators from across the state.

Prior to the trip, the ensemble will play a free preview concert in Fisher Auditorium on Tuesday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. The concert repertoire celebrates the diversity of the American musical voice, including works by Roger Zare, Florence Price, Virgil Thomson, John Williams, and George Gershwin. IUP Department of Music cello professor, Linda Jennings, will be the featured soloist, performing John Williams’s heart-wrenching “Theme from Schindler’s List.”

The concert will also include a performance by the IUP Brass Ensemble directed by Zach Collins. The Brass Ensemble will perform compositions by Bill Holcombe, Vaclav Nelhybel, Percy Grainger, Georges Bizet, and Chris Hazell.
