As if studying for finals on top of already busy student schedules wasn't enough, these IUP students took some extra time to make someone else's holiday special.

Cards for Kids

Kerry Rice, a nutrition major from Cooperstown, organized the first “Cards for Kids” project at IUP for children in hospitals during the holidays.

Kerry worked through the Office of Service Learning to do the project. She collected more than 1,000 holiday cards that have been signed by students and businesses in Indiana. The cards will be sent to children's hospitals across the state and to Indiana Regional Medical Center for distribution.

Treasures for Children

In November and December, student workers from the Office of Service Learning Kathleen Lackey and Leah White, both from Plum, coordinated donations for the Treasures for Children program, sponsored by the Salvation Army.

More than 13 different offices at IUP donated to the program, including the Foundation for IUP, the departments of music, adult and community education, political science, English, sociology, psychology and theater and the College of Fine Arts, the College of Education and Educational Technology, the Robert E. Cook Honors College and the offices of the vice presidents. More than 100 gifts were donated along with $150 in monetary donations.

Toys for Tots

Members of the IUP Pre-service Teachers of Mathematics organized a drive for Toys for Tots for Indiana County.

The group collected more than 100 toys for the program, which is coordinated nationally by the U.S. Marine Corps.
