Approximately 150 ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (IUP) students have volunteered to give their time to 15 different organizations in Indiana, PA on the morning of Saturday, September 27, 2014.
The Office of Service Learning at IUP organizes this biannual event, which is part of a national program to encourage university members to be active in their local communities. Each fall and spring, the office invites local nonprofit organizations to apply for help from students.
IUP has been recognized by the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the last six years for exemplary service efforts. Students record close to 150,000 hours of volunteer service during a typical academic year. Using the current national minimum wage, those hours would be valued at more than $1 million.
This is the 12th year for the program at IUP.
Romeo's Pizzeria and Mediterranean Kitchens will donate pizza for a picnic for the student volunteers and agencies participating in the day, held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Indiana County Courthouse lawn.
