Enrollment for ϳԹ for fall 2014 comprises 12,130 undergraduates and 2,239 graduate students, for a total of 14,369 students. This total includes 3,480 new and transfer students, up from fall 2013 new and transfer student totals.

Fall enrollment for all IUP sites combined is 14,571, which includes students in the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts in Punxsutawney and the IUP Criminal Justice Training Center.

The university has maintained its academic quality in new student admissions. The freshman class has an average high school grade point average of 3.3, and 25 members of the class are valedictorians or salutatorians.

More than 6,000 prospective students visited campus for fall 2014 admission, bringing more than 15,000 guests to the campus and community.

James Begany, vice president for Enrollment Management and Communications, noted that this fall, for the second year, IUP has been able to support the enrollment of high-achieving students through the Sutton Scholars program. This second class of Sutton Scholars, totaling 254 students, has an average GPA of 3.8 and an average SAT score of 1136. The Sutton Scholars program is funded by the Foundation for IUP, along with gifts from alumni, friends and employees. The inaugural group of Sutton Scholars included 260 students.

“Recruitment and retention of students is a campus-wide effort,” Begany said. “While we are committed to meeting our new student enrollment goals, our focus continues to be getting students who have a high academic profile and who are the right fit for this university.”

Out of the total IUP enrollment for fall, 7.5 percent of students are from outside of ϳԹ. Sixteen percent of IUP students are listed as minority students, and 6.2 percent are international. Sixty-one countries are represented in this international student population.
