Charles McCreary began studying French when he was 12. Today, as a faculty member in IUP’s Department of Foreign Languages, he uses that knowledge to share cultures from other countries. Learn about him in this installment of Meet Our Faculty.
What is it about the French language that initially drew you in—and ultimately keeps you interested?
I have studied French more than 50 years, since I was 12. I have always loved the language and its subtleties. France is a wonderful place to work or travel.
Why do you enjoy teaching in this discipline?
I am lucky enough to meet many people from different countries doing what I do. It is always a pleasure to share with different cultures.
What advice would you give students about how to succeed in college?
To always keep your mind open to other ways of thinking and different traditions.
