Craig Pickett, Jr., a 2010 graduate of the Student Affairs in Higher Education program, was recently selected by The Southern Association for College Student Affairs as the 2022 Dissertation of the Year. Award recipient. 

Pickett’s dissertation, A Phenomenological Exploration of the Lived Experiences of Second-Year African American Male Students on Predominantly White Campuses through the Lens of Critical Race Theory, was selected as the 2022 Dissertation of the Year by The Southern Association for College Student Affairs. SASCA is regional and generalist student affairs association that represents 14 southern states and focuses on inclusiveness, professionalism, and collegiality. 

Pickett is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, where he also completed his Ph.D.

In April 2022, Pickett was awarded the College of Education and Communications’ IMPACT Award for the Student Affairs in Higher Education Department The IMPACT award honors alumni from each department in the college for achievement in their respective fields and the contributions they make to their communities.
