As a member of the IUP community, you may receive requests for donations of university-owned items, use of IUP facilities, and inquiries about how IUP professionals can help the community in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
While donation of university-owned items is prohibited under State System of Higher Education Procedures and Standards for University Operations, in light of current circumstances, the Office of the Chancellor has eased that restriction. This means that arrangements for charitable donations or use of medical equipment or other supplies can be coordinated with governmental, medical, or other facilities or organizations directly responding to the coronavirus pandemic.
While IUP wants to provide needed support to our community, we must first meet our obligation as responsible stewards to support our primary mission of providing high-quality education while protecting the health and safety of our students and employees. We must also be careful not to exhaust our faculty and staff who are working hard to continue operations during this challenging time.
To ensure appropriate and thoughtful decisions are made, all requests for donations, use of university facilities and equipment, and requests for faculty or staff expertise or time, must be made through the university's Point of Contact, Vice President for University Advancement Khatmeh Osseiran-Hanna. Requests should be made to Ms. Osseiran-Hanna via email at vpua-covid@iup.edu.
There are some necessary procedures that will be followed before any donation, loan of equipment, use of facilities, or employee expertise and time is authorized:
The property being considered for donation must be confirmed as property of the university;
The property being considered for donation must be officially documented by appropriate university personnel for inventory and recordkeeping purposes;
Any donation must not compromise essential university needs, current or projected;
Requests for work or consultation by university experts must be detailed with a projection of the time required for the work, along with any physical resource need(s) associated with the request.
Thank you, all, for the outstanding work that you are doing to keep our university strong.
Michael A. Driscoll
President
