A new edited collection, titled Transfer of Learning in the Writing Center, has just been released by Dana Driscoll (director of the Jones White Writing Center and professor of English) and Bonnie Devet (College of Charleston). The collection is an open access, digital publication produced by the WLN: A Journal of Writing Center Scholarship. Jialei Jiang (Composition and Applied Linguistics, Department of English) served as a digital editor on the project.
Writing transfer refers to the ability of students to use, adapt, and engage with prior writing knowledge in new settings. The Jones White Writing Center works to support students with their writing ability across courses and disciplinary contexts. Thus, the material in this edited collection will help the KJW Writing Center, as well as writing centers globally, assist writers in adapting their writing knowledge to new contexts and develop as writers long-term.
The abstract for the collection is as follows:
Edited by Bonnie Devet and Dana Lynn Driscoll, WLN's second DEC focuses on transfer of learning in the writing center, presenting seven chapters from writing center scholars. The scholars analyze the state of transfer scholarship for writing center practitioners and describe both the theory and training necessary to support transfer in the center.
