The Alumni Association Board of Directors looks for opportunities and programs that will enable graduates of IUP to stay connected to their alma mater.

Leslie Miller Purser ’80, President

Leslie earned her bachelor of arts degree in studio art in 1980 and, upon graduation, was awarded her Army commission as a second lieutenant and was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate. After 37 years of service, she retired at the rank of major general. Her last assignment was as acting principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. In 2018, . She now lives in Dandridge, Tennessee, with her husband, Joseph. They have two children, Jennifer and Justin.

Debra Evans Smith '81, Vice President 

Debra Evans Smith joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1984 and underwent new agents training in 1987 after serving in a support role at FBI Headquarters. Her early assignments included conducting investigations in New Orleans, focusing on civil rights and white-collar crime, and later, learning Russian at the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute. Throughout her career, she worked extensively on Russian foreign counterintelligence and organized crime matters in Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Smith was promoted to supervisory special agent in 1998 and led espionage investigations, notably overseeing the case of former FBI Agent Robert P. Hanssen. She received several awards for her contributions to national security. After various leadership roles, including assistant special agent in charge in San Diego and chief of the Counterespionage Group at the CIA, Smith retired from the FBI in 2014. She returned in 2015 to work on diversity and inclusion initiatives before joining the Department of Energy as an inspector in 2019. Smith is currently the vice president of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø's Alumni Board of Directors and is a proud mother of one son.

Tina Steffy '03, Treasurer

Tina earned her bachelor of arts degree in economics in 2003 and, upon graduation, began her career as an energy industry analyst in the Office of Administrative Litigation at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where she has served as an expert witness, analyzing issues pertaining to the energy sector.  She is currently a branch chief in OAL, tasked with determining the strategic direction of diverse project teams of financial analysts, economists, accountants, and engineers. In 2007, Tina received the Young Alumni Achievement Award. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband, Ken (Accounting, 2003), and her daughter, Kathryn.
