The IUP Department of Counseling is proud to have trained thousands of alumni, now scattered throughout ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and across the country, since its inception in the 1960s. A few recent MA and MEd graduates reflect on their experiences in our counseling programs below.

Lacey Macchia Lacey Macchia '18, MEd

“My time in the school counseling program at IUP was one of the most influential parts of my life. The program provided education that exceeded my expectations and gave me the skills, tools, and opportunities to become the school counselor I am today. I appreciate the self-growth and development I was able to gain on a personal and professional level. This program impacted my life in more ways than I can count, and I will always be grateful that I had the opportunity to attend as a student and become an alumna.”

Erik Messinger Erik Messinger '16, MA

“The counseling program at IUP challenged me in multiple ways that prepared me for a successful career as a counselor. The dedication and compassion of the professors have had a profound impact on my professional journey. The program and the faculty prepared me to be successful as I obtained a PhD in counseling and counselor education while continuing to be an effective counselor.”

Channing Moreland Channing Moreland '13

“I appreciated the programs emphasis on the importance of engaging in introspective and experiential classroom activities and assignments. This approach played a critical role in how I identify as a counselor and build rapport with clients. I also value the cohort model as I remain friends and stay connected with many of my cohort members.”
