The College of Health Sciences has a variety of academic centers and institutes. They draw on expertise from across the university on specialized or interdisciplinary issues.
Center for Applied Psychology
The Center for Applied Psychology (CAP) is the training clinic of the IUP PsyD program, offering PsyD students the opportunity to master their clinical skills while providing real-time services to residents of Indiana County and the IUP community, under the expert supervision of the CAP's licensed supervisors. The CAP runs three clinics year-round: a Family and Child Clinic, an Adult Therapy Clinic, and an Assessment Clinic. WIthing their training at CAP, students can choose between conducting therapy or assessment, or both, with a range of client ages and presenting concerns.
Center for Sport Science Research and Education
The center serves IUP and the surrounding community in providing lifestyle interventions through disease and health education programs, personalized fitness/health screenings and assessment, and educational and research opportunities.
Institute for Rural Health and Safety
The Institute for Rural Health and Safety brings together university personnel from various disciplines and professional backgrounds to solve problems related to highway traffic safety. It provides driver education and improvement programs and first responder and emergency response team training.
Mid-Atlantic Research and Training Institute for Community and Behavioral Health
Founded in 1988, the Mid-Atlantic Research and Training Institute for Community and Behavioral Health (MARTI) is a powerhouse organized around a consortium of academic and professional experts in the field of alcohol abuse treatment, domestic violence intervention, and related mental health issues. Since 2012, the institute's early focus has expanded to include new initiatives—among them, alcohol and drug research, veterans' reintegration, family and mental health issues, training conferences for health professionals and educators, and community outreach. The institute's long and consistent track record in the community continues, and its credibility and high regard among various constituencies remains resilient.
