Health Service Clinic
IUP operates a Health Service clinic for minor illness and injuries. It is staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses who specialize in caring for college students. It is open for appointments Monday through Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Students do not need any money at the time of the visit to be seen at the campus Health Service. Any charges they may incur are billed through the Student Billing Office and the Easy Pay system. No paper bills will be sent.
Any information regarding student visits or charges on campus is confidential unless the student gives specific permission, which can be easily done at the Health Service.
Indiana Regional Medical Center
This is a level-two trauma center across the park from campus that has a fully staffed emergency department open 24/7. The local ambulance service can transport your student to the medical center from any location in Indiana County just by calling 911 any time of the day or night.
Center for Health and Well-Being
Students pay a campus Wellness Fee that allows them access to all the services and programs of the center, including health care and psychological counseling.
Insurance
No insurance is used for on-campus services; however, all students are encouraged to have personal health insurance for off-campus providers, such as lab work, x-rays, prescriptions, and emergency room visits. Check with your insurance provider to see if your student is covered away from home.
Medicines
Medicines can be picked up by prescription using local drug stores, or some can be dispensed from the campus Health Service for a low cost.
Students can have over-the-counter medicines and cough and cold supplies in their room in case of minor illness, and can have prescription meds in their possession with the appropriate labeling.
Talk with your students about their medical history and health insurance before they leave home. And, if students become ill away from home, they should be better prepared to deal with personal health issues.
Health History Form
No physical is necessary to attend IUP; however, all IUP students are required to submit their health history and immunization forms electronically. Some visits cannot be completed without this information. You can also submit immunization records by mailing, emailing, faxing, or hand carrying them to the office.
