IUP Education Abroad Scholarship Opportunities
IUP students studying for a semester or longer qualify for these scholarships if they meet the criteria that the scholarship donors have specified. Decisions on these scholarships will be made based on the materials that you submit for your education abroad application.
There is no separate application for these scholarships.
Study Abroad Scholarships
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at IUP
- Must be participating in a full-time study abroad program sanctioned and approved by IUP
- Must have earned a minimum 2.5 grade point average and be in good academic standing
- Study abroad must be a minimum of one academic semester
- Must demonstrate self-reliance, maturity, and flexibility to deal with the challenges and opportunities associated with study abroad programs
- Preferences will be given to students who have financial need
- Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident
Dr. Patrick A. Carone Study Abroad Scholarship
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at IUP
- Must be participating in a full-time study abroad program sanctioned and approved by IUP
- Must have earned a minimum 2.5 grade point average and be in good academic standing
- Study abroad must be a minimum of one academic semester
- Must demonstrate self-reliance, maturity, and flexibility to deal with the challenges and opportunities associated with study abroad programs

John F. and Yvonne Galli Trettel Scholarship
The Trettel study abroad scholarship shall provide scholarship support to students enrolled at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø for study abroad educational and/or international cultural experience opportunities in Western Europe, favoring such countries as Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
- Must be a non-foreign language major
- Must have completed a minimum of 48 credits
- Must be candidate's first overseas experience
- Minimum criteria for the following scholarships:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at IUP
- Must have earned a minimum 2.5 grade point average and be in good academic standing
- Must demonstrate self-reliance, maturity, and flexibility to deal with the challenges and opportunities associated with study abroad programs

The Lieutenant General Joseph S. Laposata and Anita L. Laposata Study Abroad Scholarship
The Lieutenant General Joseph S. Laposata and Anita L. Laposata Study Abroad Scholarship shall provide scholarship support to students enrolled at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
- Must have completed a minimum of 48 credits
- Study abroad programs in Italy, Portugal, or Spain.
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at IUP
- Must be participating in a full-time study abroad program sanctioned and approved by IUP
- Must have earned a minimum 2.5 grade point average and be in good academic standing
- Study abroad must be a minimum of one academic semester
- Must demonstrate self-reliance, maturity, and flexibility to deal with the challenges and opportunities associated with study abroad programs
- Preferences will be given to students who have financial need
- Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident
The Marla Sabo Scholarship for Studies Abroad
Marla Sabo is the founder and CEO of Sabo Strategic Partners International. She was part of the first IUP Studies Abroad in France, at the Universite de Nancy. Her one year overseas was a transformative experience, which was the impetus for beginning and funding the scholarship. That experience encouraged her to continue her education at the Universite de Paris-Sorbonne years later. Sabo completed her BSEd in French/secondary education from IUP in 1979, received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007, and received the Eberly Hall of Distinction Award in 2012.
The Marla Sabo Scholarship for Studies Abroad shall provide scholarship support to students enrolled at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
- Awarded to a junior or senior each academic year studying abroad for a minimum of at least one semester
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Preference will be given to students from the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology
- Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at IUP
- Must be participating in a full-time study abroad program sanctioned and approved by IUP
- Must demonstrate self-reliance, maturity, and flexibility to deal with the challenges and opportunities associated with study abroad programs
