IUP offers an IUP Live Mail email account to all alumni and retired employees.
For alumni and retiring employees who wish to maintain their connection to IUP, Live Mail accounts are provided. Once set up, alumni can find instructions pertaining to the setup and maintenance of their Live Mail account.
The Live Mail accounts are on the Microsoft 365 cloud-based service. These accounts are email only and will not have access to Office 365 or any of the Microsoft 365 applications.
Set up your vacation reminder prior to your leaving IUP to let people know your new email address. Note that email sent to your IUP email address will no longer be delivered to your IUP account once the account becomes inactive. Email sent to your IUP address will bounce back to the sender with no forwarding email. The vacation reminder to let people know your new Live Mail account. Even if you choose not to request a Live Mail account, the vacation reminder is a good option to let people know a new email address.
Live Mail Account Setups and Password Resets
If you are a graduating student, please read and understand the IUP account retention procedures prior to requesting a live mail account.
Your new email address will be your IUPemailalias@live.iup.edu. The account quota is 50GB.
You have until your account becomes inactive to forward your email from your IUP account to your Live Mail account. You will also want to reach out to your contacts with your new email address. The IT Support Center does not offer services to assist with this.
In addition, you should copy any files that you have saved to your IUP OneDrive account to another storage medium—either your computer, USB, external hard drive, or other cloud storage service.
When your account becomes inactive, your IUP email account and anything saved your IUP OneDrive account will no longer be available. See the Computer Account Retention procedure for more information.
Be sure to review the Account Retention procedures shown above.
Before your account becomes inactive, follow these steps to request a Live Mail account:
- Open an internet browser and navigate to .
- If needed, reset your password.
- In MyIUP, go to the Discover tab. Search for Live Mail.
- Select Request Live Mail Account.
- On the next page, click the Request Account button. You will see a screen that says:
"You have successfully requested a live.iup.edu account. The current status of your request is: Account Creation Pending."
This page will also display your Alumni Live Mail username and initial password. You will need to allow approximately two hours for the Live Mail account to be created.
If your account has already been inactivated, alumni can request a Live Mail account by visiting the . Retired employees should reach out to IT Support directly to request a Live Mail account.
Once the request is received by IT Support, your Live Mail account will be created and we will reach out to assist you with accessing it for the first time.

Log in to your account at .

Enter your Live Mail email address (@live.iup.edu), then click Next.

Enter your initial password, then click Sign in. If you are having issues with this initial password, please contact the IT Support Center at the number on the footer of this page.

You will be prompted to change your initial password to a password of your choice. The password must be a minimum of eight characters and is case-sensitive. In addition, the password must meet three of these four conditions: an uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number, or symbol. You will enter the password two times for confirmation.

After changing your password, you will be prompted to set an alternate email or phone number for future account recovery. A verification code will be sent to either your email or phone, which you will re-enter.

Set the desired time zone and language.

Once you have completed these steps, you will be taken to the Office home page. From here you can go to Outlook to view your emails.
Your Live Mail email account is hosted on the Microsoft 365 platform. To make managing your password easier, there's a self-service password reset feature that you'll set up when you log in for the first time.

If you ever forget your password and have set up a recovery phone number or email, simply click the "Forgot my password" button on the sign-in page to reset it.
Have a question about your Live Mail email account?
No, your current email messages are not automatically copied to your new account.
If you are going to copy any information from your soon-to-be-deactivated account, make sure you forward messages to your Live Mail account.
Student accounts will remain active 60 days after their date of graduation. After this date, you will no longer have access to your email account.
Before your active IUP email is deactivated, you can export your contacts from your IUP email and import them into your new account. Below are the instructions you will need to follow.
Exporting your Contacts:
- Log in to your active IUP email account at .
- Go to your contacts by clicking the people icon on the left side.
- Under the Manage Contacts drop-down, select Export Contacts.
- Click Export. A CSV file will be downloaded to your new device.
- Sign out of your IUP email by clicking your name in the top right, then Sign out.
- Completely close your browser and reopen it before proceeding.
Import Contacts to Your New Account:
- Sign in to your Live Mail account at .
- Go to your contacts by clicking the people icon on the left side.
- Under the Manage Contacts drop-down, select Import Contacts.
- Click Browse to select the file you exported earlier. Click Import.
- Your contacts will be imported to your Live Mail account.
You have the ability to change the password on your new account any time you wish. Keep in mind that these passwords will expire every 365 days. It is recommended that you change this password every couple of months to stay ahead of the expiration date.
To change the password, after you log in to the interface, follow these steps:
- In the top right-hand corner, click on your name. Click View Account.
- In the menu on the left, click on Password
- Use your password reset method (phone number) to verify your identity.
- Enter your new password, then enter it again to confirm it.
- Select Submit.
Note: If you have forgotten your password or cannot use the self-service feature, you will need to call the IT Support Center at 724-357-4000. After some identity verification, we can provide a temporary password.
When your IUP account receives becomes inactive, OneDrive will no longer be accessible. If you have any questions, please see the account retention procedure.
Make sure that you transfer over your information from your OneDrive to a storage of your choosing that is not affiliated with IUP. To save your information, you can use an external hard drive, a cloud service, etc.
When you graduate from IUP, your Office 365 accounts will go inactive with your IUP network account. To make sure that you don't lose any data that you have on your IUP OneDrive account, please pull it from your account before your graduation date.
- To keep your data, log in to your IUP OneDrive account by going to and entering your network username and password.
- Once you get into your account, click on the icon for OneDrive.
- Once you are in your OneDrive account, click on the checkbox to select all of the files next to Name.
- Click Download toward the top of the screen.
- You will start to download a zip file with all of the contents from your IUP OneDrive account.
From your Live Mail email account, email messages can be forwarded to other email accounts like Gmail or Outlook.com. To forward your messages:
- Open Settings. This will appear as a gear icon in the top-right corner.
- Click on Mail.
- A menu will appear on the left side. Click on Forwarding.
- Click the switch to Enable forwarding.
- Enter a valid email address then click Save.
Please note that these are not instructions for forwarding your regular IUP email account.
Upon account activation, you will be required to set a self-service password reset option. You can choose to add a phone or an alternate email for the password reset process.
When you use this feature, you will receive either an email or text message where you can then reset your password.
After setting this up, if you have forgotten your password, you will be able to use this self-service to do a password reset.
You can use the following information if you would like to configure an email client or smart device to access your Live Mail account:
- Outgoing Mail Server - smtp.office365.com
- Outgoing Mail Server Port - 587
- Outgoing Security Type - TLS
- Incoming Mail Server - outlook.office365.com
- Incoming Mail Server Port - 993
- Incoming Security Type - TLS
Note: We have found that some phones require 993 incoming. Also, please make sure you have enabled the option Authentication Required on your phone, if not enabled by default.
- Select the Settings icon.
- Tap Mail.
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Add Account.
- Select Exchange.
- Enter the following information:
- For Email: enter your Live Mail email address.
- For Password: enter your account password.
- For Description: delete the word "Exchange" and enter "IUP Live Mail."
- Tap Next.
- Enter the following information:
- Server: outlook.office365.com.
- Username: enter your Live Mail email address.
- The password should already be entered. If it is not, enter your email password.
- The rest can be left as is.
- Tap Next. This will verify your account information.
- Tap Save.
- Tap Done.
- Return to the Home screen, then open the Mail application to test your newly set up account.
