The Technology Operations Team has developed a standard support model for IUP-owned mobile devices. This allows for an increased support level by technology staff across campus. All purchases of IUP-owned smartphones must be coordinated through the Accounts Payable office at 724-357-3874.

Mobile devices supported by the IT Support Center

These smartphones and tablet devices have been tested and approved for use by IUP employees. If you need assistance in determining which device to purchase, please log a ticket via . Only phones and tablets owned by IUP are supported.

Pricing for cell phones differs between carriers. The Financial Operations Office will be able to provide current pricing across the models for each provider.

Please complete the IUP Smartphone Request Form to begin the ordering process; non-smartphone requests should use the IUP Wireless Phone Request Form. There is no insurance available for smartphones.

  • Apple iPad* (Wi-Fi and Cellular)

Cellular iPads must be purchased through the service provider by the Financial Operations Office. Please log an  ticket for Wi-fi-only iPads. See the  before creating your ihelp ticket.

Once the smartphone arrives on campus, you will be notified by the Accounts Payable office to pick up the device. Proceed with the device setup using the instructions below. If you need assistance, please log a ticket via .

Only IUP-owned smartphones are supported by IUP technology staff. All IUP-owned smartphones must be billed and managed through the Accounts Payable office. The IUP connection service is only available for IUP-owned devices that have been tested and approved by the IUP Technology Operations Team. The purchases of IUP-supported smartphones and the IUP connection service are only available for faculty and staff.

Please note: The IT Support Center offers limited support for personal mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.

Activating IUP Owned Devices

For an iPhone, complete an iCloud Backup on your old phone and shut it down. For AT&T, go to and follow the on-screen instructions to activate your new phone. For Verizon, follow the provided instructions to activate your new device.

Power on your new phone. Follow the Setup Assistant prompts to connect to a network, restore an iCloud Backup, enroll in Remote Management using your IUP email address and network credentials, and then complete any remaining setup preferences. Once the phone setup is finished, complete steps 2–8 and 18–23 under the heading “Automatic Setup: Wireless, Email, and VPN” below.

For Android devices, power off your old phone and activate your new device. For AT&T, go to and follow the on-screen instructions to activate your new phone. For Verizon, follow the provided instructions to activate your new device. Power on the new phone and follow the setup prompts, including transferring data from your old phone.

Automatic Setup: Wireless, Email, and VPN

Please note that you must first have an active internet connection (cellular) in order to enroll a device. 

  1. Download and install Intune Company Portal from the App Store.
  2. Launch the Company Portal and tap Sign In.
  3. Enter your IUP email address: username@iup.edu
  4. Enter your IUP network credentials on the IUP Web Single Sign-On Login page.
  5. Tap OK on the ‘Get Notified…’ screen.
  6. Tap Allow to allow notifications.
  7. Tap Begin on the Set up IUP access page.
  8. Tap Continue.
  9. Tap Continue.
  10. Tap Allow.
  11. Tap Close.
  12. Tap Continue.
  13. Tap Continue.
  14. Follow on-screen instructions to install the profile.
  15. Return to the Company Portal app and tap Continue.
  16. If prompted to allow Intune to take over management of the Company Portal app, tap Manage.
  17. Tap Done.
  18. When prompted to enter email password, tap Edit Settings. (If you miss this prompt, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > IUP Office 365.)
  19. Tap Re-enter Password and sign in using your IUP network credentials.
  20. Open Settings and tap General.
  21. Tap VPN & Device Management and then tap VPN.
  22. Tap the circle icon next to ‘IUP VPN – IKEv2’ and then tap Edit.
  23. Enter your IUP network password and tap Done.
  24. Your setup is now complete. Use the Company Portal app to install IUP-recommended apps.
