Beyond teaching courses, IUP's Language, Literature, and Writing Department members participate in a variety of activities which serve the university and the greater community. This work is often carried out through centers, institutes, and projects which coordinate activities. These activities are focused on meeting specific community needs.
Centers and institutes provide an opportunity for professionals to utilize their expertise through consultation, technical assistance, and research-related activities. Programs provide excellent opportunities for students to learn, to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, and to become involved in meaningful projects in the community. All of this work by members of the Language, Literature, and Writing department community strengthens the research and public service missions of the university and, therefore, enhances the quality of education at IUP.
