The IUP Office of Media Relations works to connect university news, stories, communicators, faculty, and campus newsmakers with the media. This includes serving as the primary resource for media inquiries and outreach, including coordinating press conferences, events, and interviews, and building relationships with local, regional, and national media.
The executive director of Communications and Media Relations, Michelle Fryling (mfryling@iup.edu), is the official spokesperson for the university. All official university statements are generated through the Marketing and Communications' media relations office. If you need to speak to personnel in this office after traditional business hours, please contact Michelle Fryling at 412-309-1530.

Student Hometown News Releases
Distributing news about student achievements—including scholarships, awards, or internships or attendance at conferences—are part of the outreach mission of the Office of Media Relations.
In order for a news release to be developed, the student must fill out a hometown news release form with their biographical information and indicate permission for a news release to be sent out to media.
Campus Alerts and Notifications
In the event of an emergency or crisis, including a change to scheduled classes or events related to inclement weather or other circumstance, members of the Office of Media Relations will play a crucial role as part of the communications response team. Information will be posted on the IUP website and on the Emergency Information site. Emergency information will also be recorded on the IUP Information line, 724-357-1213.
