Background
Terry Serafini was born and raised in Western ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and is a 1961 graduate of IUP, having earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education. While at IUP, he served as Student Government president and was active in many university organizations.
After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army, Mr. Serafini began his business career in 1964 as a computer systems marketing representative for the IBM Corporation. Six years later, he became a partner and co-owner of Computerpeople, Inc. During his twenty-seven years of association, Computerpeople grew to emply over 1,300 computer professionals. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, his company also maintained offices in Columbus, Cincinnati, Sacramento, and Portland, providing systems expertise in all disciplines to major corporations throughout the United States. Mr. Serafini sold his interest in Computerpeople in 1997.
Terry also co-founded Compucom, Inc., a digital imaging and microfilm solutions company located in Pittsburgh.
Terry and his wife Janet reside in Pittsburgh and Jensen Beach, Florida.
Uses and Purposes
The scholarship provides financial support to students who meet the following criteria:
- Must be enrolled at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as a full-time undergraduate with a declared major in Mathematics or Secondary Mathematics Education
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America
- Must not be under any current disciplinary sanction issued by the IUP Office of StudentSupport and Community Standards
- Preference will be given to students who have financial need
- The scholarship award process is to be conducted each year; previous awardees who meet eligibility criteria may reapply and receive the award again
- Must have a QPA of 3.0
