There are currently scholarships available for public and private school-age students to participate in the IUP Community Music School ensembles. Music teachers in Armstrong, Indiana, and Jefferson counties are offered the opportunity to nominate up to two of their students.

In the future, and dependent upon funding support and donations, we hope to offer scholarships for private lessons. For the 2024–25 academic year, we can offer them for the ensembles.

Guidelines

  • The names of student nominees are accepted only when submitted through email by the student's music teacher to the director of the IUPCMS, Jeff Wacker, at jwacker@iup.edu. If a parent or guardian would like their child considered for a scholarship, they must contact their music teacher.

Note: A principal may submit a student for a scholarship as long as the email submission is CC'd to the school's music teacher and the teacher concurs with the submission.

  • Nominees must be submitted for each semester, and prior to the second rehearsal of that semester. The teacher has the option of submitting the same students, all new students, or both previous and new students.

  • Each scholarship student must attend all performances and commit to the number of rehearsals indicated under each ensemble for the semester.

  • Each scholarship student must complete a Scholarship Acceptance Form, to be signed by the student, teacher, and parent and submitted to the IUPCMS director.
  • All students must register in the IUP Community Music School in order to receive the scholarship and participate. Registration is accomplished by going to the Registration Page, clicking on the crimson-colored "Register Now" bar near the top of the page, completing the online form, and then clicking "Register" at the bottom of the form.

With the Percussion Ensemble being offered at no cost, there isn't a need for a scholarship. However, each high-school-age participant must have the recommendation of their band director, recommendations must be emailed to the IUPCMS director, Jeff Wacker, at jwacker@iup.edu, and participants must also play in the percussion section of the University Band.
