On October 5, 2019, the IUP marching band—known as the “Legend”—made its way through what is arguably the most grueling day on its schedule. IUP photographer Brian Henry tagged along with his camera.

10:03 a.m. — The band begins the march down Philadelphia Street, where anxious onlookers await.

10:32 a.m. — After the half-hour parade performance, Martynuik rallies the troops for a debriefing.

12:35 p.m. — Break ends. Members reconvene and begin another round of warmups.

1:15 p.m. — The next performance is another march toward George P. Miller Stadium, where the IUP Crimson Hawks will take on California in the annual Coal Bowl.

1:20 p.m. — Before heading into the stadium, the band finds itself inside the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, where it treats alumni and their families to a surprise performance during the Crimson Huddle.

1:56 p.m. — Moments before kickoff, the band lines up to welcome the football team and mascot, Norm, to the field.

2:30 p.m. — It doesn’t take long for the band to put forward its best energy, rooting the football team to victory.
