Overview
Hexavalent chromium (Cr 6) is associated with lung cancer and other serious illnesses. Health effects recognized by OSHA when promulgating new standards included lung cancer, occupational asthma, and dermal effects. There are currently comprehensive OSHA Cr 6 standards in place for General Industry, Construction and Shipyards—all of which were phased in between 2006 and 2010.
This webinar will lead with an overview of the health effects of Cr 6, OSHA standards, and the industries where exposures are encountered. An emphasis will be placed on welding fumes, associated with stainless steel welding. Exposure levels associated with various welding processes, factors that contribute to exposure, and research on engineering controls will be presented. This webinar will assist employers in evaluating exposures associated with common welding processes and selecting effective engineering controls.
