Catherine Raeff, professor of Psychology, published a book with Oxford University Press titled, Exploring the Complexities of Human Action. The book offers a theoretical framework for thinking systematically and integratively about what people do as they go about their complex lives in all corners of the world.
The book begins by constructively questioning some conventional practices in psychology. Raeff then articulates an alternative systems conceptualization of action that emphasizes multiple, interrelated, and dynamic processes. The book also applies this conceptualization to varied human issues, including mind-body connections, identity, art, diversity, extremism, and freedom.
Raeff hopes that the book will promote complex and empathic understanding of human beings that can bring people together to pursue common goals.
