Dr. Christine Black
Associate Professor, Department of Health and Physical Education

Dr. Christine Black, Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education, has been employed by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø since 1991. During that time she has been involved in multiple professional and academic associations, participated in research, externally funded grants and scholarly activity in various areas in the health education field. She has given over 40 presentations within the local community and at state and national conferences. Dr. Black has been able to secure grant funds for public service use in various categories, with Tobacco and HIV education being the most prominent.

In 1998 the national "Master Tobacco Settlement Agreement" resulted in the Commonwealth of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø receiving around $11 billion. Dr. Black received funding from the prevention, education and cessation category of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Tobacco Settlement, which makes up 12 percent of the available state funding.

In December of 2001 Dr. Black was part of a committee which submitted two grant proposals on behalf of the Armstrong/Indiana County Drug and Alcohol Commission (AIDAC) in Shelocta. Thus far $110,715 has been brought in for IUP initiatives. Dr. Black has developed a "Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program" team at IUP, which consists of the following people: Mr. Robert Alman, Dr. Robert Kostelnik, Mrs. Annette Kostelnik, Mrs. Ann Sesti, Dr. Amy Labant, Dr. Linda Klingaman, Ms. Sharon Deutschlander and multiple graduate students.

Dr. Black's funded project for her expertise in HIV education is known as the HIV-Update: A Workshop for Educators . In 2003 IUP was awarded a two year grant for over $50,000 from the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Department of Education.
