University Senate Research Committee (USRC) Small Grants
This information can be found on the University Senate Awards website. The links are located in the dark gray shaded box at the top of the page.
Faculty may receive up to $4,000 during a single year or $7,000 over a three-year period through a combination of Senate Fellowships, research and scholarship "small grants," and conference travel. The amount for which you are eligible to apply is determined by adding the present fiscal year and the prior two fiscal years' awards. Please note: 2020-21 awards will not apply toward these totals.
Can a small-grant proposal be submitted for travel to present papers/scholarly work before receiving conference acceptance?
Yes. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply well in advance of the conference date and may submit an application prior to receipt of conference acceptance.
Can I submit a proposal for a second travel to present papers/scholarly in one academic year if the travel award I received was less than $1,000?
Traditionally, no. However, for AY 2020-21, faculty may apply for multiple "travel" awards to support presentations at multiple virtual conferences this year. Faculty may receive up to $2,000 in "travel" funds.
No. Faculty should split different presentations into separate applications.
Can a small-grant proposal be submitted for the May competition for research and scholarship projects and travel to present papers/scholarly work that will occur prior to July 1 of the new fiscal year?
No. For the May competition, small-grant proposals are only accepted for research and scholarship projects and travel to present papers/scholarly work beginning July 1 or later.

Each applicant submits her/his proposal to co-present at a conference. Applicants proposing to co-present at a conference must explain each person's contribution to the work being presented, as well as justify why more than one presenter is needed at the conference. There must be some overwhelming reason why two presenters should be funded to present the same paper.
