Our Scholarly Editing and Writing Service is a free, asynchronous service offered to the entire campus community (faculty, students, and staff). The goal of this service is to offer comprehensive editing and writing support for all scholarly communication (articles, book chapters, conference presentations, dissertations, theses, poster presentations, and other professional documents). 

Our service operates on a weekly basis. You are welcome to email us to schedule an appointment in advance (scholarly-communication@iup.edu).  

Otherwise, we book appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. To get started, please fill out our !

Note: Some users experience an error or "access denied" message by using certain browsers when not logged in to IUP. If you experience these issues, we recommend clearing your browser and logging in with your IUP credentials before clicking on the intake form.

Once you have an appointment, we will return your manuscript within one week’s time.

Our service operates on a weekly basis. You can sign up for an appointment during the academic semester, and our consultants will offer feedback or editing on your manuscript and return it within one week’s time. Details about how to sign up and aspects of our service are found on this page.  

We operate on a week-to-week basis. Manuscripts are collected on Tuesday evenings, and our consultants work on them until the following Tuesday evening. You will receive your revised manuscript by Wednesday morning.

Features of our Scholarly Editing and Writing Service

Our robust service is designed to support you in your scholarly communication in a wide variety of ways. All of the different options are provided under our single Scholarly Writing and Editing Service. 

Dissertation and Thesis Support: Our service offers support both during writing and when graduate students are working to complete and deposit their thesis or dissertation.  

  • Dissertation Chapter Feedback. We offer a second set of eyes to provide feedback on your completed dissertation chapter. Our consultants will review your manuscript to A) ensure that you meet audience and genre expectations, and B) offer feedback to strengthen the organization, argument, and overall writing in your manuscript. 
  • Copyediting and iThenticate review. We provide copy editing services, formatting support, and an iThenticate review prior to defense or depositing. 

Scholarly Manuscript Support: We offer a range of services for journal articles, grants, poster presentations, abstracts, and other forms of scholarly communication.  These services include:

  • Academic Manuscript Review: We offer a second set of eyes to provide feedback on your manuscript prior to publication. Our consultants will review your manuscript to ensure that you A) meet audience and journal requirements, and B) offer feedback to strengthen the organization, argument, and overall writing in your manuscript. Please note that we recommend the Academic Manuscript Review prior to using our Copyediting and iThenticate services. 
  • Copyediting Service: Our consultants will copyedit your manuscript, which includes grammar, punctuation, citation format, and reference checking. 
  • Journal requirements review: Our consultant will review the journal requirements and share feedback on any areas of your manuscript that do not align with the journal requirements.
  • iThenticate review: iThenticate is a plagiarism and academic integrity checker which is used extensively by professional publications globally to check submitted manuscripts. We offer a review with suggestions for how to remediate any issues.  
  • Peer Review support: Work with our consultants to help break down peer review feedback and create a revision plan.
