Call for Applications for 2016 Faculty Learning Community on SoTL
- Do you want to be part of a community of faculty researching how to improve their teaching?
- Do you need a project that combines your teaching and research interests?
- Do you crave revitalization or diversification of your scholarship?
If so, the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Faculty Learning Community (FLC) may be just what you seek.
The Center for Teaching Excellence, with support from the Office of the Provost, is sponsoring a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Faculty Learning Community for the 2016 calendar year.
The learning community emerges from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Keynote address and workshop given by Dr. Cathy Bishop-Clark and Dr. Beth Dietz-Uhler from Miami University of Ohio this past September.
The SoTL FLC will begin meeting in the Spring 2016 semester and continue to work through Fall 2016. This community will engage IUP faculty in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) through conducting a SoTL study in an IUP course during Fall 2016. The learning community will meet monthly during the spring and fall semesters to plan, implement, and evaluate a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning project. Meetings will last approximately two hours and the community will go through the entire SoTL process including research design, IRB protocols, individual questions and challenges, and presenting and publishing the results.
We are assembling a diverse group of both junior and senior faculty representing a wide variety of disciplines and experience levels. The group is limited to ten participants who must commit to attending monthly meetings, completing a SoTL project in their classroom during Fall 2016, and applying to publish and/or present their findings in scholarly forums.
Additional information is included in the application form. Applications must be submitted electronically to teaching-excellence@iup.edu by January 4th. Please contact Kelli Jo Kerry-Moran with any questions.
