This Reflective Practice Workshop was held on September 19, 2015 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. The workshop was facilitated by Beth Dietz-Uhler and Cathy Bishop-Clark of Miami University in Oxford Ohio.
This practical, hands-on workshop for faculty guided participants through the process of creating their own Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project. All registered workshop participants received a copy of the book written by the presenters entitled, Engaging in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. The workshop was appropriate for faculty from all disciplines and for new SoTL scholars, as well as those interested in assistance related to a specific SoTL project idea. Participants were acquainted with the process of generating a research question, designing the study, collecting the data, analyzing the data and presenting and publishing SoTL, but the workshop focused particularly on generating the research question and identifying the appropriate design. Each stage was illustrated by examples. Reflective exercises were used to help participants generate and refine ideas as well as map out next steps. On completion of the workshop, participants had an outline with specific tangible steps on how to move their SoTL project forward.
