Student Accounting Association Makes Generous Food Pantry Donation

On November 21, 2019, the IUP Student Accounting Association community service chair, Andrew Konieczny, went grocery shopping, spending $478.41 on 304 nonperishable food items which were donated to the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center. The SAA faculty advisor, Kim Anderson, came up with the idea as a way for the SAA to give back to the university.

Student Accounting Association Holds Last Fall Semester Meeting

The Student Accounting Association held the final meeting for the fall 2019 semester on Thursday, November 14, in the Eberly Auditorium. The 2019 SAA president, Matthew DeCesare, announced the incoming 2020 SAA officers. Sarah Crownover will serve as president; April Murdick will serve as senior vice president, replacing Kelly Kumetis; Robert Kanick will serve as vice president, replacing Kaitlin Albright, and Larry Jones will serve as the vice president of finance, replacing Jordan Schofield. Kim Anderson will continue to serve as the SAA faculty advisor.

Alumnus Schlott Speaks to Student Accounting Association

On October 28, the Student Accounting Association hosted G-Squared Partners in the Eberly Auditorium with 54 accounting majors in attendance. Victoria Schlott ’19 and Eileen Peters were the guest speakers for the evening.

Eberly Features Sophomore Jack Steve, Finance and Accounting Majors

Jack Steve, who plays on the IUP Men’s Golf team, majors in both finance and accounting and is pursuing a minor in information systems and decision sciences.

Alumnus Sutton ’94 Speaks to Student Accounting Association

Fifty-nine accounting majors attended the Student Accounting Association’s third meeting of the semester on October 15, 2019, featuring guest speaker Joanna Fetzer Sutton, who graduated from IUP in 1994 with a major in accounting.

Michael Niggel, Allie Collier, and Kiara Nappenbach from PNC were joined by accounting alumna Samantha Frye ’19 on September 26.

Zbur ’17 Serves as Keynote Speaker at Student Accounting Association Career Day Lunch

On September 18, 2019, the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology’s Student Accounting Association, in collaboration with the IUP Career and Professional Development Center, held its annual SAA Career Day at the Rustic Lodge in Indiana, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. Sarah Zbur, a 2017 IUP accounting alumnus and senior associate with KPMG, served as the keynote speaker during the Career Day lunch.

Accounting Alumna Rosenfeld - Guest Speaker

On May 2, the IUP Student Accounting Association set another attendance record of 187 at its annual Recognition Dinner held at the Rustic Lodge. The guest speaker was IUP accounting alumna Lindsay Rosenfeld ’00.

Accounting Alumni from S&T Bank Speak to Student Accounting Association

The presentation for the evening focused on internal auditing. Within the field of accounting, and more specifically audit, there are a plethora of job opportunities to both new graduates and seasoned accountants. The speakers mentioned the differences between internal auditing and financial statement auditing.

On March 6, 2019, the Student Accounting Association hosted David Duffus, a partner with the Pittsburgh office of Baker Tilly, as their guest speaker. Duffus spoke to the 63 accounting majors who attended about forensic accounting

On March 25, 2019, the Student Accounting Association hosted guest speaker Jim Renacci, who has lived an extraordinary life since he graduated from IUP—CPA, successful business owner, and eight-year member of the United States House of Representatives.

Alumna Sams ’14 Meets with Students About New National Association of Black Accountants Chapter

On March 7, 2019, Raven Sams, 2014 IUP accounting alumna and senior compliance testing specialist with PNC in Pittsburgh, met with a group of eight IUP students to help them finalize IUP’s National Association of Black Accountants chapter.

Student Accounting Association Visits BNY Mellon in Pittsburgh and Meets with Alumnus Wisnewski

On Friday, February 22, a group of 17 IUP Student Accounting Association students visited BNY Mellon in Pittsburgh. One recurring theme reiterated throughout the day was the importance of majoring in accounting to help ensure a successful career in the banking industry. Many of BNY Mellon’s positions are filled by professionals with accounting backgrounds, including their current CEO, Charles Scharf.

SAA Holds First Meeting of Spring 2019 Semester

On February 5, the Student Accounting Association (SAA) held its first meeting of the spring semester. The meeting began with approximately 20 current SAA members explaining how each one of them obtained their various career opportunities, including summer leadership programs, internships, and full-time permanent positions. The membership point system was discussed as was the fast-approaching Recognition Dinner to be held on May 2.
