Transfer the Credits You've Earned
You started taking college classes before applying to IUP, pushing yourself and preparing for the challenges of university courses. Now, your hard work pays off. IUP works with first-time students who have earned college credits.
More and more students are starting college with credits toward their degrees. Here's how the process works and what you need to do:
Credit Evaluation
There are two parts to the credit transfer process. First, there is the evaluation of the course to determine an equivalent. The second part is how that credit can fit into the requirements for earning the degree you choose at IUP.
Generally, any college-level/non-developmental course in which you earn a C or better will transfer. You can also earn credits for AP exams, CLEP exams, or IB credits. If you earn these, they will appear on your IUP transcript. You will then be able to consult the IUP Undergraduate Catalog and your faculty advisor to understand how these credits fit into your degree program here at IUP.

Things to Remember
- You must send transcripts and/or test score reports in order to get credit. Please send these prior to attending orientation to make sure you don't schedule courses for which you have already been awarded credit.
- While you may earn credit that shows on your transcript, there are some program-specific instances where you may still need to take a required course at IUP in order to graduate or participate in special programs. For example, for students pursuing accelerated admission to an affiliate school in our pre-professional majors, those schools will only accept the credits from IUP as part of our agreements, so you may need to take the course at IUP to be eligible for early admission.
- If you change your major, your transferred credits may apply differently to your degree requirements.
