Associate Professor of Graphic Design and Illustration, Drawing
Nate Heuer has had diverse experience with a variety of drawing and printmaking media. His recent large-scale drawings investigate the architectural wreckage of an aggressively consumerist economy, echoing the principle of Creative Destruction described by the economist Joseph Schumpeter. His work has been exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions and has been published in a variety of publications, including New American Paintings and Drawing Essentials: A Complete Guide to Drawing.
Nate is also interested in issues of cognition and perception, and he has regularly presented his research at international forums such as the Cognitive Futures in the Humanities Conference at the University of Oxford. He is particularly interested in how representational and ideational drawing can be used to test the Extended Mind Thesis proposed by the philosopher of mind Andy Clark, which posits the existence of extended loops of cognition.
