George Bartha is the director of Infrastructure Services for Bayer Corporation in Pittsburgh ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. Bayer is a $40-billion worldwide pharmaceutical and crop science company headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany. He has worked for over 18 years at Bayer and he is responsible for Bayer's North America Data Center and Network Operations, serving over 15,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada and over 16,000 employees in Latin America. He has responsibility for the computer infrastructure serving 125+ Bayer sites in the U.S. and Canada and 120+ sites in Latin America. The computer infrastructure assets he manages in the Pittsburgh Data Center and at the various sites is valued at over $500 million.
George has over 30 years' experience working for a number of large and small companies in the IT. Prior to working at Bayer, he previously worked as an IT service delivery manager consultant at CIBER. He worked as a customer liaison at Applies Science Associates and as a service deliver manager for Computer Delivery Services, two small software startup companies in the Pittsburgh area. He also worked at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh and Delmarva Power and Light Company in Wilmington, Delaware.
George is a 1983 graduate of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø with a double major in MIS and accounting. He is also a 1990 graduate of Widener University with an MBA and a concentration in management information systems. He has served for over 10 years on the IUP Business Advisory Council. During that time, Bayer has hosted many student events on the Bayer Pittsburgh campus and, last summer, hosted the exchange students from IUP's Hyderabad, India, campus. He also previously has served on the Pittsburgh SAP User Group as vice chairmen.
George and his wife, Kathy, IUP accounting major '84, live in McDonald, Pa. with their two children, Michelle and Alexander. He has been active over the years in many community service activities. He currently serves as a school board director for the West Allegheny School District. He previously has severed on the North Fayette Township Zoning Hearing board for 13 years, a number as chairman. He has also previously served in various capacities on the North Fayette Athletic Association.
