Haven Project Grateful for IUP Support

Counseling Center Closed Over Summer Break

The Counseling Center does not offer student counseling services during the summer. The office will open for administrative services only May 12–16 and August 9–20. Counseling services will resume on August 23.

IUP Shares What They Would Tell a Survivor

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Haven Project invites you to view the “What Would You Tell a Survivor?” video offering encouraging messages of hope and support. IUP and its community partners want survivors to know that they matter, they are heard, they are supported, and they are not alone. 

Take Back The Night: A State System-Wide Virtual Event

Take Back the Night is an annual event that raises awareness, empowers individuals, and inspires action that will bring an end to sexual violence. The virtual event will include guest speakers Tracey Vitchers from It’s On Us and Denise Pearson, vice chancellor of the şÚÁĎłÔąĎÍř State System of Higher Education.

Fostering Success: Student Stories of Perseverance and Resilience

Join representatives from the Connections Team to learn about the experiences foster care students have at IUP by listening to their stories of perseverance and resilience. Learn about ways IUP can help with the transition—mental health support, financial aid, community engagement, case management, mentoring, housing options, and tutoring programs, just to name a few.

Take Back the Night Virtual Speak Out

On Wednesday, April 14, at 5:00 p.m. you are invited to show your support for survivors of sexual assault with the Haven Project’s Virtual Speak Out. Survivors are given the chance to have their voices heard, even if we can't be together in person. Anonymous stories were submitted and will be be read by the Haven Project staff, peer educators, and volunteers.

“What Were You Wearing?” Exhibit Dismantles Myth Around Clothing and Sexual Assault

The Haven Project and the Fashion Merchandising Program are partnering together to set up the “What Were You Wearing?” exhibit. Anonymous survivor stories from the IUP community will be on display all week in the Stapleton Library, April 12–16.

IUP Community to Create Signs to Support Survivors of Sexual Assault

The IUP community can support survivors of sexual assault by creating a sign with a supportive message for the “What Would You Tell a Survivor” campaign. Signs are due by Friday, April 23, 2021, to the Haven Project.

The Haven Project is holding a Virtual Speak Out on April 14 at 5:00 p.m. to continue to support victims and survivors of sexual violence.  Survivors can submit anonymous stories via a Google doc form or by emailing the Haven Project.

Survivor Stories Needed For “What Were You Wearing?” Exhibit

Suvivor stories are needed from students, faculty, staff, and administration to make the “What Were You Wearing?” exhibit a success in 2021.  Survivors are encouraged to submit their stories so that the display can brings awareness to the issue of victim blaming and helps to dismantle the myths about sexual violence occurring due to what a person was wearing when the assault occurred.

Green Dot Training: All Students Welcome

IUP Haven Project invites all students to learn about Green Dot. If we all do our small part, we can make a big difference. Green Dot is a violence prevention program at IUP. Green Dot changes the campus norms so that violence becomes unacceptable, and the campus is intolerant of violence. This changes the campus culture.

Learn the signs and prevalence of domestic and dating violence and what to do if you or someone close to you is affected by this issue. If you or a loved one is in an abusive relationship, you are not alone. Learn what resources are on campus and in the community to help.

Group Therapy: What's In It for You?

Research has shown that group counseling is as effective as individual counseling. Talking with other students who have similar experiences provides support and perspective. Group facilitators work to provide a safe, confidential environment where members are free to discuss their thoughts, feelings, and concerns as they are comfortable.

Learn about healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, love styles, love languages, and signs of dating and domestic violence. Learn about stalking behaviors, safety tips, safety apps, and resources that are available if you need help (on or off campus).  You are not alone. Help is available.

Healthy Relationships Volunteer Training with the Haven Project

Educate yourself and your peers about the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. Get trained so you can help the Haven Project spread awareness on campus so that everyone knows that support is available.

How Can the Case Manager at IUP Help Me?

Navigating a new university and community setting may seem daunting and overwhelming for students. The clinical case manager at the Counseling Center meets with students to discuss their needs and struggles and determines how best to assist them, connecting them with resources and services both on and off campus to help meet their needs so that they may be successful at IUP.

Presentation: Human Trafficking

Join the Haven Project and Chi Upsilon Sigma on Tuesday, January 26, for a virtual presentation on human trafficking. Learn about the different types of human trafficking, who is most vulnerable, how traffickers coerce their victims to gain control, how you can stay safe, and how to identify someone who may need help.

Students may be eligible to receive aid to help pay for groceries, heating bills, and more. Contact the IUP Counseling Center clinical case manager to discuss programs for which you may qualify.Â
