Autism2Work is hiring multiple service desk analysts in Pittsburgh, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. In order to be considered for this role, candidates must have a diagnosis which is on the Autism Spectrum. These are long-term openings that include hourly rate, 401k, and full medical benefits. High school diploma required, associate or bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, or related field is preferred. Previous experience in IT is a plus!

This ground-breaking initiative employs IT professionals that have been affected by autism. In order to be considered for this role, candidates must have a diagnosis which is on the autism spectrum.

In this role, the service desk analyst is tasked with receiving and analyzing service requests ("tickets") to ensure that submitter has the proper authority for the requested service or system. After determining permissions, they would complete the request in accordance to defined procedures. The service desk analyst will have the ability to update, create, or delete user access across multiple systems and platforms. The ability to remain focused while utilizing multiple systems simultaneously is paramount for this position.

Technical Requirements

  • Creation of IDs for non-employees
  • Access management across platforms that we support; RACF; LDAP; Active Directory; Data Custodianship; etc.
  • Definition of groups within active directory
  • Definition of file permissions within active directory/LDAP
  • Mainframe resource and rule maintenance (RACF)
  • Secondary auth ID creation
  • Management of Security Request Management queue assignments and workflow to designed data custodians; including Incident and Request ITSM.
  • Knowledge of incident management best practices
  • Access management on enterprise roles
  • Batch processing/JCL
  • Knowledge of Incident management best practices
  • Exposure to DB2 and Oracle databases and queries
  • Help desk level experience of active directory administration support
  • Access administration using RACF (Highly recommended)

Key Competencies

  • Work independently to complete requests and complete the minimum number of tickets a day
  • Possess the ability to work in a team environment and support others in the completion of assigned work
  • Able to work independently to complete requests and complete the minimum tickets per day
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via verbal and written communication
  • Ability to learn and operate several systems simultaneously in order to complete a request

American Association of People with Disabilities

Since 2002, the AAPD Summer Internship Program has developed the next generation of leaders with disabilities and offered host employers access to a talented, diverse workforce. Each summer, AAPD places college students, graduate students, law students, and recent graduates with all types of disabilities in summer internships with Congressional offices, federal agencies, nonprofits, and for-profit organizations in the Washington, DC area. Each intern is matched with a mentor who will assist them with their career goals. AAPD provides the interns with a living stipend, transportation to and from Washington, DC, and fully accessible housing

At the beginning of the summer, interns participate in a one-week orientation session to learn about AAPD and the disability rights movement, meet the other interns, and participate in a variety of engaging workshops and events. As part of the AAPD network, interns also receive opportunities to attend events on Capitol Hill, conferences, community events, briefings, and more

Who BroadFutures Serves

  • Young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 with learning disabilities.
  • Young adults who are transitioning from high school to higher education, taking a break from their educational pursuits, or focusing on workforce skills.
  • Young adults who:
    • Possess a high school diploma or will be earning one prior to the start of the program;
    • Have a documented learning disability;
    • Are motivated to be a part of the program;
    • Are responsive to direction and able to work at a consistent pace.

BroadFutures' Program

  • Training:
    • Two weeks of training before internship including:
      • Appropriate etiquette and communication in the workplace
      • Roleplaying with drama for interviews and effective workplace skills
      • Presentations from workforce experts
      • Yoga and mindfulness
      • Highly individualized support, with a student to staff ratio of 5:1
    • Friday trainings during internship
      • Reinforce skills learned in training and roleplay areas for effective workplace performance and improvement
  • Mentoring:
    • Goal setting before program and monitoring of goals during program
    • Supporter and liaison between intern, employer, and BroadFutures
  • Internships:
    • 7-11 week paid internships at professional offices
    • 20 hours a week, Monday through Thursday

Summer Internships in University of Pittsburgh Human Engineering Research Laboratories

 What do you ASPIRE to be? The mission of HERL is to continuously improve the mobility and function of people with disabilities through advanced engineering in clinical research and medical rehabilitation. The ASPIRE REU program is designed to promote greater involvement and understanding of Rehabilitation Engineering and assistive technology – while fostering an understanding of the problems faced by individuals with disabilities.  This results in a greater ability to apply engineering principles to improve the quality of life, which promotes a higher degree of inclusiveness and greater functionality for people with disabilities.

ASPIRE Program dates: May 16, 2022 – July 21, 2022 Rehabilitation engineering employs a systematic approach to the design, modification, customization and/or fabrication of assistive technology for persons with disabilities. ASPIRE research efforts in rehabilitation engineering are focused on identifying and addressing problems critical to achieving and maintaining the highest possible level of function in areas related to mobility, communications, sensory (e.g., hearing, tactile, vision), and cognition and in activities associated with employment, independent living, and education. Each ASPIRE participant will work directly with HERL faculty and graduate students to help transform the lives of individuals with disabilities. The ASPIRE program provides an exemplary mentoring and resourceful environment that enables undergraduate students to transition from dependent to independent thinkers, develop a sense of excitement about entering an engineering or technical field, and be well prepared for their future careers. The deadline is March 13, 2022.

ASPIRE provides:

  • Seminars and workshops to augment the research experience
  • $4,750 stipend
