Ginmo Chung
FDI Scholar in the Department of Mathematics
He received both a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and M.A. in Mathematics from UCLA, where he is currently a Ph.D. student, expecting to finish by June 2007, under the guidance of Dr. Luminita Vese.
His areas of interest includes variational methods and partial differential equations, level set methods, geometric flows, viscosity solutions, numerical analysis, and applied differential geometry, with applications to image analysis. His Ph.D. thesis is devoted to image segmentation using a multilayer level set method. He is also supported by the Center for Computational Biology at LONI, UCLA, and he is trying to apply the multilayer segmentation model to the extraction of anatomical structure in brain MRI data.
He held teaching assistant and research assistant positions at UCLA, and he was a Multiscale Geometry and Analysis IPAM Fellow, and received a SIAM Student Travel Award.
His research work has been presented at several conferences, including the International Workshop on Energy Minimization Methods in Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition 2005, the SIAM Imaging Sciences 2006 conference, the 7th World Congress on Computational Mechanics, and the SPIE Electronic Imaging Meeting, 2006.
