IUP master's students must maintain a minimum of 3.0 (B) cumulative grade point average to be good standing academically. Doctoral students must maintain the minimum cumulative grade point average as established by their respective programs (between 3.0 and 3.5). Students who fall below good standing are placed on probation for their next active semester term, during which the grade point average required for good standing must be met. Students who fail to raise their cumulative grade point average to that required for good standing will be dropped from degree programs and will not be permitted to register for further courses.
Process
- At the end of every term, immediately following the Registrar's Office end-of-term processing, a report will be generated by the staff of the SGSR that will list all students whose academic standing has "changed" from their most recent active semester.
- The assistant dean of the SGSR will review each transcript to verify the information on the report.
- If the student is listed as having an academic standing of "Probation," and the standing is verified, a letter will be emailed to the student informing them of the policy on Academic Good Standing.
- A copy of this letter will be sent to the program coordinator.
- If the student is listed as having an academic standing of "Dismissed," and the standing is verified, the student will then be informed of the decision by letter via email, with the program coordinator copied.
- Program coordinator can appeal on behalf of the student if they are aware of a particular situation.
