I. Call to order

Absent: Intemann (Onwueme attended to represent the provost)

II. Minutes from the September 7, 2010 meeting were approved as presented on a Deckert/Migyanka motion.


III. Co-Chairs Report

A. After last week's Senate meeting Mary Anne Hannibal contacted Gail to report that the catalog description that we had just approved for MIDL 310 was the catalog description that had gotten approved for MIDL 222 Reading Instruction and Assessment in Grades 4-8 so in October Gail will resubmit MIDL 222 to Senate with its correct catalog description.

B. Liberal Studies Committee Report:
• Approved First Year Seminar course - LBST 281 The Dark Side of the Internet (Therese O'Neil)
• Approved First Year Seminar course - LBST 281 Ghosts, Bigfoot, and Spontaneous Combustion: Exploring the Paranormal (Laurel Black)
• Approved First Year Seminar course – LBST 281 Safe Living in a Very Unsafe World (Jan Wachter)
• Approved the revision of CDFR 224 Marriage & Family Relations which is a Liberal Studies Elective
• The FYE (LBST 281) will be Liberal Studies Electives until Freshmen Experience is approved.
• Lewis will write an email to David Pistole inquiring about the fact that there were 200 level Geoscience courses (such as Age of the Dinosaurs) that were changed to 100 level and this has caused problems for students that met graduation requirements when they registered for the course but now do not since the number changed. Can Liberal Studies provide a one-time exemption for students that were impacted this semester?
• On a Baumler/Potts motion the Liberal Studies report was received as corrected.

C. 10-17b DVST 095 Introduction to College Math II, distance education
• Differentiation between the two groups of students who could potentially take the course has not been made clear.
• The course format and justification for an online course do not seem to be appropriate for the population of students who would take the course or to meet the objectives of the course.
• As presented in the proposal before us, the committee has not been convinced that the objectives of the course can be met in an online format.
• Baumler/Knight made a motion to approve the course as presented to us. The motion was defeated unanimously.

D. 10-15f CDFR 321 Preschool Education: Play and Developmentally Appropriate Practices, course revision, course title change, catalog description change
• On a Potts/Deckert motion the proposal was approved.

E. 10-15h CDFR 328 Family Issues, new course
• On a Lewis/Baumler motion the course was provisionally approved pending changing the title or doing a course deletion of the old CDFR 323 Family Issues.

F. 10-15a Child Development and Family Relations, catalog description change, program title change, program revision
• CDFR 323 should be changed to CDFR 328 with new title in both the minor and the major and & should be replaced with and on the side by side.
• On a Baumler/Migyanka motion the minor was approved.
• On a Baumler/Migyanka motion the program proposal was provisionally approved pending Liberal Studies and TECC approvals and changing the number/title of CDFR 323 to CDFR 328.

G. 10-12a FDNT 402 Community Nutrition, course revision, catalog description change
• On a Potts/Boser motion the course was returned. Proposer will be asked to provide a rationale since there were substantial changes.

H. 10-12b FDNT 484 Senior Seminar, catalog description change
• On a Migyanka/Baumler motion the course was returned. Proposer will be asked to provide a rationale for the changes.

I. 10-29 SPAN 350 Advanced Spanish Conversation, catalog description change
• On a motion Boser/Baumler motion the catalog description change was approved.

J. 10-24b NURS 338 Maternal Child Health, course deletion
10-24c NURS 339 Maternal Child Health Clinical, course deletion
10-24d NURS 435 Community/Psych/Mental Health Clinical, course deletion
• On a Baumler/Potts motion the three course deletions were approved.

K. 10-24e NURS 412 Professional Nursing III, course revision
• On a Potts/Boser motion the course revision was provisionally approved depending on updating the bibliography and possibly the required textbook, and adding 2 hours for the final.

L. 10-24f NURS 432 Psychiatric Mental Health, course revision
• On a Baumler/Knight motion the course revision was provisionally approved depending on updating the bibliography and possibly the required textbook, and adding 2 hours for the final.

M. 10-24g NURS 434 Community Health, course revision
• On a Lewis/Boser motion the course revision was provisionally approved depending on updating the bibliography and possibly the required textbook, and adding 2 hours for the final.

N. 10-24h NURS 436 Adult Health II, course revision
• On a Deckert/Lewis motion the course revision was provisionally approved depending on updating the bibliography and possibly the required textbook, and adding 2 hours for the final.

O. 10-24i NURS 437 Adult Health Clinical II, course revision
• On a Boser/Baumler motion the proposal was provisionally approved depending on updating the bibliography and possibly the required textbook, and adding 2 hours for the final.
