This workshop will inform participants about the basics of intimate partner violence (IPV), the ways in which persons in violent or abusive intimate relationships many present in mental health settings, strategies for evaluating mental health concerns in light of IPV, and skills for incorporating a focus on IPV into MH treatment plans.

Objectives

  1. Describe the role of IPV as a social determinant of health and mental health.
  2. List skills for conducting IPV screening effectively and safely as part of mental health evaluation.
  3. Distinguish opportunities and strategies for incorporating a focus on IPV into mental health diagnosis and treatment planning.
  4. Assemble resources for MH clients and for clinicians when IPV is an issue.

Target Audience: Clinical personnel, counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, educators, criminal justice professionals, health care professionals.

Introductory level. CE credits offered = 1.5 contact hours.
