In this workshop, participants will learn of a national plan to significantly reduce violence. The plan contain dozens of concrete recommendations which communities can implement quickly and that are supported by research. The plan also includes a framework for expending prevention initiatives at the local level.
Objectives
- Identify fears that are common to boys and men who have been traumatized that keeps them from seeking medical care. Reviewing peer-reviewed literature on this subject, the workshop offers concrete steps to conduct urological and other invasive exams in a manner that eases the anxiety of male survivors.
- Explain the spiritual impact of trauma on survivors and examine concrete guidance for developing community and other initiatives that will develop resources in addressing this issue.
- Appraise the vital role youth serving organizations have in building resilience among youth who have been traumatized. The workshop includes concrete steps these organizations can take to assist youth in coping with trauma. The role of these organizations in preventing trauma will also be detailed.
Target Audience: Clinical personnel, counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, educators, criminal justice professionals.
