President Tony Atwater has announced he will be on medical leave most of January 2010 for prostate cancer treatment and recovery. Provost Gerald Intemann will serve as acting president January 7–29.

Shawn Williams, 21, of Lucernemines (near Homer City), a student in the College of Health and Human Services, died Sunday, October 18, 2009. The president shares his concern and sympathy for Shawn’s friends and family.
The state Senate has confirmed the appointment of Jonathan B. Mack to the ϳԹ State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors, according to a press release from PASSHE. Mack is a member of IUP’s Council of Trustees.

President Tony Atwater offers condolences on the untimely death of IUP freshman Brenton Croll, 18, Roaring Springs, a nursing major, who died March 18, 2009, in a friend’s on-campus residence hall room. The Indiana County coroner is working to determine the cause of death.
