Former Member and Majority Leader of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø House of Representatives

Dave Reed grew up in Homer City, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, where he attended and graduated from Homer-Center High School in 1996. He then went on to become part of the first graduating class at the Cook Honors College at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, receiving his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics in 2000. Upon his graduation from IUP, he continued his education at the University of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, earning a master of governmental administration degree in 2001. 

During his last semester at Penn, Dave took the train across the state twice a week to finish his graduate studies in Philadelphia, while beginning his first campaign for elected office back home in Indiana County. In 2002, at the age of 24, he was elected to the first of what would become eight terms in the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø House of Representatives, as the youngest member at that time.

Throughout his tenure in Harrisburg, Dave became known for his hard work, positive and collaborative way of building relationships, and commonsense approach to molding public policy. He was twice elected by his peers to serve as chairman of the Majority Policy Committee and was also elected twice to serve as the House Majority Leader.

In 2018, at the conclusion of his eighth term serving in the House of Representatives, Dave joined First Commonwealth Bank as their regional president for the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Community Markets. In January 2022, he then became First Commonwealth’s ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø state president, a position he continues to hold today.

As a proud IUP alumnus, Dave has continued to give back to the institution since graduating by speaking to numerous economics, business, and political science classes and organizations. He served on the IUP Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2006 until 2014. He has also been recognized by the university with its Distinguished Young Alumni Award in 2012, its Distinguished Alumni Award in 2016, and with the University Faculty Union’s Friend of Higher Education Award in 2010.

Dave currently serves on the board of directors of the Indiana County Community Action Agency, the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics, the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana County Development Corporation, and the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he enjoys coaching and officiating youth sports. Dave, his wife Heather, their son Joshua, and their daughters Gracie and Elliana, live in White Township, Indiana County, along with their two dogs, a cat, and a leopard gecko.
